Summertime Smackdown

She scored the last spot in Moana summer camp in July. And also a week each of Nature Explorers, Music with Art (with her favorite instructor, Hot Damn!), Scrap Camp and a week of Swimming meets Gymnastics at the rec center. 100% not taught by me! So she will be blazing a trail all on her own. Which is a whole new world for her. Plus, it means no lazing around this summer! Busy, busy, busy.

After a successful year in kindergarten she doesn’t seem ready to slow down anyway. Regardless of what the calendar says ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘. Which is just fine by my standards.

BUT! We ain’t slacking at home either. My hands are still a little shaky and I’m not quite finished but this was our project for the day. After punching out roughly 200 glitter circles, she’s already busied herself cleaning her room (“I feel so proud right now!”) and organizing the cabinets. She’ll earn her allowance IF every space is filled at the end of the week, in addition to .25 for every book she reads to me. (Ended the year on level J! Haaay)

I even added 3 Freebie circles later for each week which she didn’t quite understand for some reason. I said “just be grateful” and we moved on. She’ll understand when the sun is setting and she’d rather play Minecraft.

After all the wasted time, wasted emotion and bullshit deviation from life in the last two months, I’ll only have to forego one week of summer school when all is said and done. And I won’t be missing any little Dolphin or Shark classes! Which would have warranted many a frownie face from me. I waited over a year for that ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I thought I was going to have someone to spend my summer with, but I won’t. Fell short by just a few weeks and never got that far. My plans and hopes for my future may have changed quickly and hurt in a ridiculously drastic manner, BUT I will be that much more grateful for any Freebie Circles that might happen to come my way from here on out. Back to Business.

Omg!!!! So artsy :)))) i love the glittering circles! Whose idea is this? I just love how beautiful (& elegant) that scoreboard is ๐Ÿ˜
Ah oh, nice parenting 101 for her little chores to be done! Happy father’s day!

    1. My idea when I realized I’d rather pay her for reading than learning to respect her home! And also she started bitching a little about how she “can’t find anything for $5 or under” on days when she hasn’t earned something bigger….taking a lot for granted money wise and I realized she has no concept cause she’s never had to! We’re gonna do a garage sale of all her old stuff so she can see just how little the turnover is on all that expensive plastic she always wants or buys with her own money!

Uh oh, I think she will not like the results of that money wise, but she’ll definitely learn. My parents did same thing when we were young. Had to earn & do chores if we want money. Which really taught us to be responsible both in money & cleaning the house! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Hah! I hope she’s excited because I never was lololol

        1. As the day ends and she only has three dots, I’m thinking she will have to get paid by the dot rather than have to fill the board or nothing. Its going to involve too many variables to do it the other way!

  2. You write with such tender intimacy about family life, and with such openness (and respect and consideration) about heartbreak. Beautiful words, mature perspective – thank you for sharing, and for welcoming the world to bear witness to life and love. No doubt it is sometimes uncomfortable. I noticed when you “stepped away” briefly, and I missed you. I’m so glad you are finding your voice again. Your writing is the sort that feels, often, like I am simply sitting down over coffee with a dear friend. Thank you for that. โค

    1. Thank you. I’m recovering from being made to feel like an absolute monster by the people I cared for most. A monster which I’m not. I’m just terrified of a lot of things which I’ve been abandoned and not accepted for. So this message in particular is very important to me…especially right now. Thank you. ๐Ÿ™„

  3. Awww. You sound like a great Dad. This post reminded me of my now 13 year old when she was that age. Keep on keeping on. She’s going to really appreciate this one day. And I love the book incentives and garage sale idea!
My daughter is also crazy busy this summer. But I am glad. It keeps her out of a slump and keeps those neurons firing. Maybe returning to school won’t be such a difficult routine to adjust back into.

    1. We aren’t a sports family thank God so no all day bs tournaments and travel and unknown full day commitments! We gave up soccer last year so it freed her up to try some new stuff. Very excited for her although our schedule is already nearly backwards after only a few days off school, lol!…we went to get snacks at 12:30 last night ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

      1. We are currently marathoning our way through all episodes of The Wonder Years. Iโ€™ll look down and itโ€™ll be almost midnight! These habits are gonna kick my ass come August. But itโ€™s so much fuuuuun!

          1. I am NOT a night person….or a morning person….more or a 10 a.m. person hahaha. But I do love staying up and doing fun stuff with her. Being spontaneous. It’s the best part of being a parent sometimes!
I know!!! “What would ya do if I sang outta tune? Would ya stand up andwalkoutonme…?” ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

            1. Yeah it was fun to have that time since we didn’t have anywhere to be in the morning! No bedtime and such.

Lol! One of very few acceptable Beatles covers!

            2. One of the best parts of that whole series was the music. I think almost every episode has just about made me cry. Season 3 starts tonight!

            5. Probably so. Maybe it’s that she just wasn’t that great an actress.
